Amsterdam in Motion celebrates 750 years of Amsterdam through a dynamic exhibition of projection, film and interactive installations. Visitors are invited to step into the living rhythm of the city — to create, to question, and to see themselves reflected in its ever-changing story.
Two interactive experiences stand out for their playful yet reflective approach to the city’s topics:
First, the protest interactive, in which visitors explore Amsterdam’s protest history through archival photos, create a digital protest board with words from these protest signs, take a green-screen photo, and see themselves projected on Dam Square. The main challenge was communicating the steps clearly — from exploring the archive to arranging words to taking the photo — while keeping the experience intuitive and visually engaging for a broad range of visitors.
Second, based on the artwork by Hans de Tweede and Tycho Sok, the digital version lets visitors spin the wheel and see themselves placed in one of ten illustrated Amsterdam housing scenarios — from living with parents until 35 to moving to Almere. The concept balances the seriousness of the housing crisis with humor and relatability, creating a short, playful interaction in which visitors can recognise themselves in familiar situations.
Having called Amsterdam home for seven years, this project felt close to my heart and explored topics that I encounter in my own life. I worked on concept development, interaction design and project management, shaping the interactives to be playful, engaging, and intuitive and leading our team. Coordinating multiple stakeholders and balancing creative and technical constraints made this project both challenging and rewarding.
