The updated interactive maquette at Architectuurcentrum Amsterdam (Arcam) transforms abstract city plans into a more inviting and relatable experience. Five audio stories, each offering a unique perspective on life in Haven-Stad in 2075, are paired with mini-maquettes and evocative collages.

The update to the Haven-Stad installation began with a broad and open-ended brief: make the maquette more engaging and less static, add lights, lasers, or beamers, provide a visual update, and also find a way to collect data from visitors—all within just two months. The challenge required creative solutions and quick decision-making. After brainstorming and presenting three distinct concepts, the idea emerged to add small lively paper maquettes to the existing abstract city model.
This approach was developed further by incorporating collages and audio stories, each telling a unique narrative about life in Haven-Stad in 2075. Together, these elements transformed the exhibit into a vibrant and relatable portrayal of the city’s future, blending tactile and digital elements. The process also included technical experimentation with Arduino, LED strips, and batteries to integrate interactive lighting. This lighting system highlighted selected stories when visitors used the touchscreen interface, enhancing the immersive experience.
This project highlights my ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines while maintaining close collaboration with the client. I translated a broad brief into a clear and impactful interactive concept and enhanced an existing exhibit. From brainstorming to prototyping and final refinements, I ensured the exhibit was both creative and engaging, delivering a meaningful experience for visitors.
